korean food

April 16, 2007

ate korean food with my sister on friday and i have to admit, it was one of the ok (not best but just surface good) korean food i’ve eaten. the best korean food would’ve of course be the one i ate in korea. but this restaurant’s food is quite good too.

 this is what we ate:

 my sister ate this. it’s korean mixed rice called bibimbap. its one of the reason i started liking korean food in the first place. just add 2-3 small saucers of a spicy sauce called gochujang and……. YUM YUM!!! :D   it normally have different type of veggies in it. then if some restaurants are generous, they put in beef or chicken or pork at the same price as the shops that dont. like the korean restaurant in section 14 sells this for 16 or 18 dollars with pork or chicken while this restaurant sells bibimbap at the same price just without the meat…

we shared this. or rather, we ordered together, i ate it all. :p its korean sushi called kimbap. unlike the japanese one, the fillings are normally beef or chicken or pork and the meat is cooked. this is the only restaurant that sells kimbap, or the only restaurant i KNOW that sells it. i’ve been to ss2, section 14, hartamas, ampang, and so far i’ve not found any that sells it. oh! the mont kiara korean restaurant sells it too but theirs is too…. limpy( is that even a word? )…?

i ordered this. i kind of took the picture only when i was finishing it… :P its called bibim neng myun. and yeah, it probaby sound familiar. my sister ate the rice version of it, bibimbap. bap=rice. while i ate the noodle version of it. neng myun=noodle. unlike the rice version though, the noodle is served cold. and i think they gave me some refined rice wine vinegar i think, but i never did pour it on cos i prefer it plain.

oh! and i think we must’ve ordered too much for just the two of us, so the lady gave us a free bowl of steamed egg. (i know. sounds weird. we order too much, and she gave us another one) but i think it’s really all about customer relation. the steam egg tasted quite nice, though i dont know what its called though.

for dessert, we were served a korean drink called soo jeong gwa, sweet cinnamon punch. its the only restaurant i know that serve this in. did not really like it though. found it really interesting. gimme the good old fashion shikhye any time. :D

this store is also the only store i know that sells dduk buk ki. its a spicy korean rice cake that you can normally find it on the streets of korea or at poh jong machas (did i spell it right?). the one in mont kiara DO sell it, but again, the ones they have there are interesting…

one thing about this restaurant though, was that they have so many workers, and when you’re eating, you can feel them staring at you all the time, making you concious about what you’re eating. that’s what i dont really like about the restaurant. the workers should look somewhere else when someone’s eating. not stare. :P but they were helpful and i guess they wanted to offer some assistance if i happen to need their help or to order something. but, it still did feel very weird to have a group of people staring at you while you eat.

all in all, if not for the staring workers, i give this restaurant 4.5 stars our of 5 for their variety and food.

 p.s bibimbap here is not the best i’ve eaten though. kimbap is only sold during lunch time.

p.s.s. the restaurant i’m talking about is a restaurant called Doorae. it’s located at kota damansara, second floor, at the same row as watson and a pet store.

Success

April 16, 2007

“To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics, and endure the betrayal of
false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.”

Hollywood romance

April 15, 2007

you know something? reading bout gossip magazines bout how stars like lindsay lohan, paris hilton and other celebs, it kinda gets you thinking. i mean, they met this other celeb or rich guy the first time, and in 20 minutes they’re making out and everything. so if the first 20 you start making out, then after an hour u have sex then what happens after a day? you move on to the next person. or u just have sex a few more times before u start getting bored with having sex with the same person.

i guess what my pastor said is true. when you go out with your boyfriend, and after a week you start making out and everything, what are you going to do with the next few years or so? i mean, if after maybe like 3 or 6 months, when you guys get to know each other better, then you start to hold hands. then after another 6 months, a peck on the cheek. and after another 6, a peck on the lips. after another 6, you get married. then you can start making out and have your ‘first night’. i mean if you’re dating a boy and you let him kiss you so fast and get into bed with him so fast, what other ‘exciting’ thing are you going to do for the rest of both your lives? there’s no more excitement in both of you.

he already ‘got’ it…. so what other things have you go to attract him? both of you will just move on to the next person.

but if you’re saying its just for fun and sex, do you know that sex is actually a sacred thing and should be done only when you’re married? i mean, if you’re so easy, he’ll get what he wants so fast, you guys will break up very fast. i dont really know how to explain it, but my pastor would’ve explain it better…

20 and still ageing…

April 15, 2007

ack… i’m turnin 20 soon!!! no!!! i dun wanna be 20. 20 sounds really really old… i want to be forever 18 or 19! when i was younger, i kept wishing i’d be older, but now that i’m finally turning 20… i wanna be younger!!! sigh… if only our age never change, nor do our body or health condition. only our mind mature. but at 90, our body and health will be like an eighteen year old…

 but i guess ageing is part of life. now i know how my sister must’ve felt and how my friend must’ve felt when she turned 30 this year. imagine turning 50… but i guess with every ten years that you pass in your life, you start to not feel as if you’re ageing. like by 50, you’re used to turning 20, 30, 40 already so 50 would be like a blimp in your life. a small bump.

Wisdom tooth

April 12, 2007

no!!! i just came back from the dentist and guess what…. i have 4, FOUR wisdom tooth!!!! and its all horizontally impacted! it looks like this:

horizontal impact

and since it;s hidden in my gums… it’ll be very painful to take out…. according to my friend, when she took hers out, it was already showing up from her gums, so it wasnt painful. but when her sis took her wisdom tooth out and it was hidden…. it was MEGALY painful… no!!!

and the worst part is now i have an infection on my gums… >< on the wisdom tooth part, since its like horizontally impacted, so there is a small hole between the wisdom tooth and the gums next to it so bacteria builds up. pray pray pray that the infection wont spread or i’ll have to take it out…. no!!!! hmm… but then, i checked out, and they said its better to take out wisdom tooth from age 14-22 so not so many complications…. i already have one complication… my w.tooth is too near the nerves… but if done at like 40, its harder to heal and stuff… how….

and u know what else….. i mite have to do braces again. -_-!   cos apparently, the reason why i cant open my mouth very big and sometimes there’s a ‘thack’ sound when i open wide cos my jaw muscles are like majorly strained… and the muscle become uneven. when i open my mouth, my jaw moves to the right abit… apparently, my jaw got pushed back. my jaw is a ‘class 2 division1′ dunno what the *** is that. so corrections need to be done. my dentist said, that the orthodontist who did for me my braces last time should have corrected it. apparently she only corrected my teeth but not my jaw. and she didnot even out my teeth. he said one side looks out. not his exact words, but he meant like, not very even on both sides i think… he said shoud’ve corrected it when i was 13/14 last time cos easier to correct but now that i’m nearly 20, he doesnt know how much can be corrected….

 but he said its up to me whether i want the braces or not. cos some people, like his niece has something like mine, and so far she has no big complain on it. just an occasional pain and headache and lock jaw. but some people had neck pain, terrible headaches, and other health stuff. so…. depend on the individual…. ><!

Chinese New Year Stuff

April 9, 2007

I know chinese new year passed like about 2 months ago, but here’s some of the stuff that my relatives and I had during the celebration.

chinese new year display

the bottles on top are some of the stuff that my grandmother normally put on display. This are like, ’spare’ biscuits. the ones that we normally eat are in milo tins or in ugly bottles. The ones here are normally eaten once the other biscuits are eaten. The ones on display are normally not as nice as the ones in the ugly bottles. We actually had more bottles, just that the not so fresh and not so nice ones are normally put on the table for display and deco.

mini fried spring rolls

This are really nice fried crispy ‘mini spring rolls’. there are normally dried shrimp and pork or chicken floss inside of it. it has a kind of salty taste. there are two types. spicy and non- spicy. normally the spicy ones taste nicer. i’m not sure if it originated from china. i dont think so. the chinese new year stuff we have in m’sia and s’pore is different from the ones they sell in China since we kinda ‘modified’ some of the cny stuff.

ngaku

this is my absolute favorite. it’s called ngaku or arrowhead in english. i can eat the whole bottle in a day. it’s fried with salt, and the really good ones, when u eat it, it kinda melts in your mouth and just can taste just the tiniest taste of salt. not recommended to do that though…  it has a kinda thick feel too. love that feel. :D

kuih bahulu 1

kuih bahulu 2

this is called kuih bahulu. there are two types. the button shaped ones and the fish shaped ones. kinda crispy on the outside, and spongy on the inside. its really nice, but it makes your mouth really dry.

rabbit sweet

i love this! we’ve had it for cny since i was really really young. i remember sneaking to the fridge get it. we call it the rabbit sweet (cos of the rabbit picture). i dont know what its really called though… but it is easy to recognise it and practically every shop has it, especially during cny. there’s like a thin film of sugar surrounding the sweet. not too fond of it. feels like i’m eating the wrapper.

 pineapple tarts

these are pineapple tarts. i dont really like them, but i seem to be the only person in the world not to though. there are many kind of designs, depending on the person who makes it. but the pineapple tarts that my mom ordered from are supposedly to be really really good. she buys ALOT. for my uncle and aunties in singapore and taiwan, my grandmother, my uncle and aunties from my dad’s side in malaysia. the thing is that my taiwan aunty and her family really likes the pineapple tart from kl, but i like the pineapple tart (cake) from taiwan. i think taiwan’s pineapple cake taste much much MUCH more nicer…

sour plum

this are sour plums. really nice. chinese sour plums. there are seeds inside of it though.

cuttlefish

cuttlefish! i love cuttlefish. especially the spicy ones. its fried, and loaded with sugary bits. ahhh….

there are many many many more chinese new year stuff, but hmm.. i’m not sure if i’ll add it or not since i saw so many other websites having the same stuff as me. with clearer pics too.
